Nadir adapters are sophisticated but easy to use pieces of equipment with a turning mechanism that allows you to position your camera facing down along a side of your tripod. Then simply move your tripod slightly so the lens is pointed directly over the original point of view and you will have an unobstructed view of the nadir. This is much better than taking the down shot from a side because when you use a nadir adapter the reflections of the floor remain the same for the down shot. This is especially required when there is a complicated ground such as stairs or see-through glass, etc. On top of all that the nadir adapter allows you to take the down shot much quicker and it will also save time on a computer as the result will be easier to stitch.
The great news is that the Nodal Ninja 6 Mecha P1 C2, the Nodal Ninja Mecha E2 C2 and the Nodal Ninja 3 MK3 E1 C2 Mecha already come with a nadir adapter preinstalled.
If you are looking for a nadir adapter for the Nodal Ninja 3 MKII Mecha, it is to be purchased separately, and you can find it here.

Our answer: The decision is yours but some actionable advice:
- Choose the R series if you are after speed, simplicity and low weight
- Choose the NN6 or M Series if you are after a higher quality, versatility and precision
Long answer: The answer depends on your photography goals.
If your main goal is to take the images quickly and you don't mind about zenith and nadir quality too much, you should go with the R series head (R1 or R20). That will allow you to take 4 shots quickly. If you tilt up a bit, these 4 shots will merge at zenith, eliminating a need for the extra zenith shot. And the nadir can be achieved by an extra shot from a side or omitted at all, bearing in mind that it will require a bit of retouching to remove the tripod in that case.
On the other hand, if you are after the best quality, and you want to take extra zenith or nadir shots to increase quality, or if you want the versatility and option to be able to use a wide range of lenses, or if you wan to use longer focal lengths that would not support 4 shots around, the Nodal Ninja 6 or the Nodal Ninja M Series is the way to go. If you are interested in these make sure you check out our article on differences between NN6 and M Series.
There are a number of models in each category. We have covered the differences of Nodal Ninja 6 models in this article and we'll cover the M series in one of the following blog posts so stay tuned. You might also be interested in differences between NN6 and the M Series.

Nodal Ninja 6 (NN6) is a climax of more than a decade of developing superior mechanical panoramic hardware by Fanotec/Nodal Ninja. It builds on the unprecedented vault of information and feedback from users of Nodal Ninja 4 and 5 is the first Nodal Ninja head incorporating robotic possibility to the design.
The number of models in the Nodal Ninja 6 category can be confusing at first but it's actually easy if you divide it in groups: There are two main models: Nodal Ninja 6 Starter Package F6001 and Nodal Ninja 6 RD10 QR NA F6002.
The main (and the only) difference between the F6001 and F6002 is whether the nadir adapter is present or not. The nadir adapter makes it easier to take a down shot - nadir shot - which is then used during stitching to make the tripod disappear from the final 360 degree spherical photo. The rule of thumb is that if you want to create landscape or multi row panoramas "only" you won't be needing the version with the nadir adapter. For 360 degree spherical photos you should get the nadir adapter version.
Then there are two models without rotator both with and without a nadir adapter. The versions without rotators that are intended for those customers who already have a Nodal Ninja rotator or those who are planning to get a Nodal Ninja Mecha motorized rotator. Then there are versions with the RD16-II advanced rotator for those would would like to include a more advanced rotator with their NN6.

Upper and Lower Parts
Each tripod adapter has a lower part and upper part. You will need both parts for the tripod adapter to work properly. Poles need two joint points and the adapter spreads the bending torque over the length of the distance between upper and lower parts, greatly reducing the torque at the tripod top disk, rotator and pole base.
Type A
Type A requires a 3/8" stud screw at the bottom of tripod's central column.
Type B
The Type B is can be used with more tripod types because it clamps onto the central column. Multiple plastic fittings are provided in the package for free with Type B adapters to accommodate various tripod center column widths. On the other hand if your tripod's central column is not supported, you won't be able to use Type B.
Type B 32mm: This tripod adapter works with tripods that have a top disk with 3/8” thread, and a center column with a diameter of 32mm, 28mm, 26mm or 25mm. This adapter is more expensive and supports few sizes of the center column. Tripod with 25mm or 26mm center column is only recommended for application below 3m. For application above 3m, tripod with a 28mm center column or bigger is recommended. The adapter spreads the bending torque over the length of the center column, greatly reducing the torque at the tripod top disk, rotator and pole base. It works with Fanotec advanced rotators, pole rotator, and Fanotec poles.
Type B 37mm: This tripod adapter works with rare tripods that have a top disk with 3/8” thread, and a center column with a diameter of 37. No other column sizes are supported. The adapter spreads the bending torque over the length of the center column, greatly reducing the torque at the tripod top disk, rotator and pole base. It works with Fanotec advanced rotators, pole rotator, and Fanotec poles.
Center to Center Distance: Travel Pole (60mm), Normal (75mm) or Long (105mm)
Most of the tripod adapters offered are "Normal" size that fits most tripods. We also offer specialized custom Type Long adapters for tripods with big top plates to support pole to tripod central column distance of 105mm.

Nodal Ninja stop plates are designed to auto-calibrate the no-parallax point on your R1/R10/R20 head for your specific lens ring and workflow. Without these plastic stop plates you need to check if the shift in the panorama head clamp is correct to ensure a good no-parallax point calibration. The stop plates are designed to eliminate the need for this check. After you insert them to the bottom of the lens ring they auto-calibrate the no-parallax point on your Nodal Ninja R1, R10 and R20 heads. It works because there is a small hole in each of the plates that holds the security pin on your head.
The stop plates come in a variety of shapes and sizes, here are some illustrative examples:

https://photosynth.net/view.aspx?cid=cf6b7426-fbd7-47eb-9ddb-095725439073

R20 vs R10 upper clamp differences
· R20 has QR Clamp closer to rotator axis than R10
· R20 has a greater clamp offset value at NPP for the same tilt angle.
· Offset of LRP values at a tilt angle is same, regardless of lens ring models.
